Rick,
Thank you and Jody for the invitation....I appreciate you guys.....I've been extremely tied up these day's. While my job at the airline is relatively secure....those of us who are left have to pick up the slack from the large layoffs. We are not in Bankruptcy and intend to stay that way. Plus my youngest daughter entered college and, well, we've just been busy. I look forward to reading your post's on SGF. I have learned a lot from you guys...Please know, I appreciate being invited to the new venue (Jody Sez). Any new song's you been working on? I have been working on a very hard song for me..."I love you so much it hurts" PSG version by Jeff Newman...because I'm no Jeff Neuman and I'm a proud non-pedlar, 8 strings not 10, I have to use the whole neck, slants, reverses & pulls to do it. I'm almost done with it...got the positions down, just working smoothness and interpretation....practice is like meditation to me these days...I need it.... Rick, have a great day!!!...Pray to keep Rita away, Hmmmm, that could be a new title & song for ya.....TX
rgds,
Ron
from Rick Alexander
Ron,
thank you - that could be a good
song!
Rita is going by right now, we
haven't lost power yet.
I hope we don't, I hate when that
happens . . .
I've been going Supro crazy lately.
Did you know Jody started on a Supro?
So did Buddy Emmons, and many other
greats . .
I'm working on some new songs with
both Supros & Console Steels in them . .
Keep working up that non pedal stuff -
your toes will be free to tap . .

I played at Madison
Square garden years back with a Hawaiian group,The Icecapades.
My
custom was slipping all over the ice, that's
when Floyd Tillman wrote "Slipping Around" so
I put chains on the legs.

---------
Years back a musician
tried to "sue" Fender
as he claims his front
"middle leg" broke off
during playing
(he played standing up).
It went to court but the judge
ruled it out
as the guy didnt have "a leg
to stand on"

The direct string pickup
trapezoid is what put fender on the map,
I have Stringmasters and Customs & like them both
if push came to shove,,,,I would choose the
direct string pickup...but I have 2 of each so "it's easy for me to say"

The amplifier market
lost a great amp when Leo left Music Man,,,Tom Walker, Fender's
original
west coast rep designed the MM amps. Tom did some design with Leo
during
his early Fender days,,,Tom designed the "Fender Blender" us old guys
remember that..I had a tough time convincing people how great a Music
Man amp was back in the 70's,,,,but like everything else ,,,,when
something is no more,,,,everyone wants to know why.
I own three MM
amps 2 Fender Tweed Twins and wouldnt part with any of them,,,yes
Speedy was a great MM amp fan as was Merle Travis and many
others,,,most of the country artists got on the MM bandwagon when they
learned that Leo was involved,,,Wayne Newton another big MM fan, Glen
Campbell & Eric Clapton also,,,it was a sad day in my life when MM
closed its doors,,, I took a big gamble by resigning from Fender when
Leo called me to rep for MM,,,but at the time Fender was under the
corporate structure of CBS and there was really nothing left of the old
Fender,,,,but they (Fender) have got it together again,,,when MM opened
its doors they woke a sleeping Giant in Fender,,,you all may recall
that Fender was on a down slide and MM was coming on
strong,,,but,,those of you who own a MM amp,,,keep it,,,I don't believe
there are any better on the market than MM was,,,the self adjusting
"bias"
was in itself a boom,,,didnt have to do that "voodoo" matched tube
routine,,,the amp took care of that,,,like a pacemaker keeps the heart
rhythm....I get calls from former MM dealers who still ask if there are
any out there for sale in good condition...I believe Ernie Ball who
owns the name and patents will in time have a MM amp again,,,but don't
hold me to that,,,there are an overabundance of amps out there
now,,,does the world need another amp??? I think it does,,,,if it were
a Musicman as I knew them.

Music Man amps are awesome,
I have 3HD-130 212s in the studio and we use them a lot.
They sound great with
Stringmasters & Customs,
and they sound killer for lap
steel - Supros, Rickys, Fenders
2 of them I've had since the
70s, one I got on eBay a couple of years ago.
Arguably the finest American
production tube amp ever.
I'd take it over a Fender amp
any day of the week.
